This morning I was interested
in how to follow instructions....

- Six days gather food in the morning
- Don't take too much for leftovers
- Last day take 2x and keep it over
- 7th day don't gather.....

and some gathered too much
and it rotted by next morning....

and some went to gather on the 7th day
and there was none there....
ref Exodus 16:13-30

Not particularly hard instuctions
don't think there was much room for misunderstanding...

But.....
There was no 'Why' given in the instructions....
Do it... or this will happen....
Don't do it.... or this will happen...

What are the consequences?
Is it worth breaking the rule if I don't get caught?
Are the consequences low enough
that if I do get caught it will still be 'reasonable'

I live in a world of 'risk management'
Check the cost
weigh the benefit
do it if it's worth it....

the concept of 'Obedience' isn't really in that paradigm....

Doing something because I trust the 'instruction giver'
to have all my best interests at heart
and I don't need to know all the 'whys'

Just a few days or weeks after this lesson
God gave them the 10 commandments....
ref Exodus 20:1-18
and since then mankind has been weighing the consequences
to see if breaking them is worth it....

Lord, I want to shift
from a 'risk management' paradigm
to a
I love and trust You
therefore I choose to obey paradigm....

So I choose to
choose You.
instead of weighing the 'options'

Yes Lord.
