Just in case....

This morning I was thinking about Joshua's challenge
and the people's response.

'As for me and my house,
We will serve the Lord...'

and the people said,
'Us too! We will serve the Lord...'

Joshua said they couldn't do it...
They said they could...
and would....

but Joshua's next instruction is telling...
'Then throw away the foreign gods in your midst....'
see Joshua 24:14-24
Hmmm....

'We can do it' they said
in the midst of their practices
and physical reminders
of gods other than Jehovah...  Life...

Hmm...

sounds like....
'I can diet....' after just filling my freezer with icecream etc...

Easy to point the finger,
at not just the 'bind spots' in my life
but the
'just in case God isn't enough' provisions....

Nothing wrong with 
- insurance
- savings
- grab and go bag
- job 'security'
- medical system
- so many other things......

..... but to
have those things
...... just in case God doesn't come through.....
defeats faith
chooses independance
and eliminates God in crisis....
...at least until all the 'go to first' provisions have failed.... :P

Lord Jesus,
I choose to listen to You
to hear and see the things
that I am holding on to for security
other than You.
I choose to walk with You.

Faith rather than fear choices...

I release my hold on other things
and trust Your plans
and care.

as for me and my house
we will serve the Lord.
