Yesterday I spent a fair while pondering and thinking about
how the Holy Spirit teaches and leads
This morning I was interested again
how His activity
formed the early churches view of
scripture.
He defined
and 'interpreted' or made sense of scripture....
The issue was
Following Moses laws
in addition to
putting faith in Jesus.
The one particular law was circumcision
A mark reminding them of the Promises of God.
Acts 15:1-35 tells the story of Paul and Barnabas
standing before the council of Jerusalem
stating the case of 'Salvation by Faith alone'
They were opposed by the party of the Pharisees
who said Gentiles must obey the law of Moses....  Acts 15:5
Peter stood up and reminded them
that God already accepted the Gentiles
and the proof of it was that He had given them
the Holy Spirit.  Acts 15:8,9
Hmmm.... interesting.
James then interpreted Old Testament scripture (their Bible)
to establish this new understanding....
But the Holy Spirit 'seal of approval'
God's obvious acceptance was the 'final' significant criteria.....
Hmm...
What if these things
God's activities
were my criteria...?
That I interpret life...
including Scripture...
through the lense of What God is doing
instead of so often the other way round....?
Would I come up with different outcomes?
Hmm....
I think I might...
Lord,
I want to walk in step
with You
and Your Kingdom
as it 'invades' earth
I want to see and hear and taste and touch
the spiritual and invisible
I want to Know You
and the Power of Your life
and the understanding You bring
to what I experience....
Thank You for sending Your Spirit
to do that.
Today.   :)
