Good day, Black Creek Church Family,

This morning I was reading the 'sower and the seed'.  Luke 8

Recently, I heard someone speaking about this parable.

They pointed out that when Jesus explained it to his disciples,

He did not teach them how to strategize to make the hard or dry or weedy soil more receptive to the word

or to only spread seed on the 'good soil'.

His parable and explanation just explained what happens and the way it is.

Growing up on the farm, we would have called this 'broadcast seeding'.

Basically, throwing out the seed and wherever it landed, that was it.

Immediately following the parable, Luke tells how Jesus teaches them to do the normal thing of

putting the lamp in a place in the room so that all receive its light.

Putting the lamp in the center of the room for all to see....  similar concept to 'broadcast seeding'.

Nowadays, farmers don't 'broadcast'.  They seed very specifically.

More seed in the places that will yield more.

They use lots of technology to make that happen effectively and efficiently.

Jesus doesn't teach to be more effective or efficient.

It appears that our 'job' is to be lights in the dark.

To scatter the seed everywhere and let God do His work.

Hmmm.

Sounds like a partnership where God is looking after the 'technical work' of determining the yield

and I get to 'broadcast' wherever He has put me.

This Sunday, we will have a short congregational meeting immediately after the service to vote on the bylaw amendment.

There will also be some cake served downstairs for someone who I can't say or it will spoil the surprise.

 Mark your calendar

Bring a salad or dessert to share

Games and prizes to follow.

Pray for the soil.  I had an interesting interaction with a young fellow yesterday.

I pray that the soil of his heart would be curious, receptive, and hungry for God

1 Corinthians 3:5    What then is Apollos? What is Paul?

Servants through whom you believed, as the Lord assigned to each.

6  I planted, Apollos watered,

but God gave the growth.
7  So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything,

but only God who gives the growth.
8  He who plants and he who waters are one,

and each will receive his wages according to his labour.
9  For we are God's fellow workers.

You are God's field, God's building.

Whew,  that's actually quite a relief.

I don't have to figure out who is good soil.

I just need to be a light, scatter seed,

and let Jesus figure out the rest.

Blessings as you scatter His seed this week,

may you shine brightly,

Peter Jackson
