Offense of the Cross

While reading Galatians I wondered "Why is the cross so offensive?"  Why was Paul being persecuted for this preaching?  5:11
- The work of the cross is sufficient, those of man are not. 
- The work of the cross means followers of Jesus are 'crucified'
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. 2:18-21

and that offends... the flesh.
