Good day, Black Creek Church Family,

Over the last month our Friday men's group has been looking at How to Read the Bible.

Though that sounds pretty much like something everyone can do, we have been looking at how to read for

 Formation of our lives rather than Information (gathering interesting facts).

A resource is 'Eat This Book' by Eugene Peterson (who wrote the thought-by-thought Bible paraphrase called 'The Message')

In the first few chapters he speaks about the gift of Reading Scripture.  That it puts God's thoughts, stories, principles, and Personal Words into my mind.

That reading is different than observing or listening. Reading replays God's thoughts and words and concepts INSIDE my head.

.... God talking to me.... every day, in my head - through His Word.

Not a new concept.  Just an awakened refreshment of the awareness of Him... speaking to me in scripture.

Another observation of Peterson is that the Psalms are a book of prayers.

In all their colour and variations.

Crying out, angry, confused, worshiping, blessed, fearful.

So many ways for me to talk to Him.

He speaks to me

I can speak to Him.. really speak to Him.

Church Directory

Starting this Sunday you can update your photo, family names or contact info for our upcoming new addition of the church directory.

See Pastor Peter after the service in the Activity Room to make those changes or if not already listed, add your name and info.

 Coming Up

In preparation for our AGM and leadership affirmations, we will be including our 'Working Together to Discern Leaders' sheet.

In it you will find the guidelines we use for discerning who may be asked to be an Elder or Ministry Leader.

Our request is that you prayerfully suggest someone who you feel fits the criteria and write their name down.

Our Discernment Committee does the rest!

This Psalm struck me as Asaph, a man devoted to living out a life for God, works through the apparent 'unfairness' of life and even some questions about God....

He observes how the wicked seem to get a great 'deal' in life.

And then.....

A PSALM OF ASAPH.73:1

Truly God is good to Israel,

to those who are pure in heart.

2  But as for me, my feet had almost stumbled,

my steps had nearly slipped.
3  For I was envious of the arrogant

when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
4  For they have no pangs until death;

their bodies are fat and sleek.

16  But when I thought how to understand this,

it seemed to me a wearisome task,
17  until I went into the sanctuary of God;
(the place where God abides)

then I discerned their end.

28  But for me it is good to be near God;

I have made the Lord GOD my refuge,

that I may tell of all your works.

Read the whole Psalm here.

Blessings as you Read His word again...

for the first time...
