This morning I was surprised
by a statement of Lot
the nephew of Abraham....

When Abraham suggested that they separate
because their flocks were too big for one area....
"Lot looked up
and saw that the whole plain of the Jordan
was well watered,
like the garden of the LORD...." Gen 13:10

Hmm....
The last I heard of the Garden of the Lord
there was an angel
guarding access to the tree of Life. Gen 3:23-24

Sooo...
Was THAT garden still around after the flood?
Had Lot seen it?
been to it?

Cool.

But
We are Not told
No record...

Got me thinking though.....
There is a warning in the message....
This plain of Jordan
lush and beautiful
like the Garden of the Lord
- had a cancer growing in it...
the two cities of Sodom and Gomorrah
were full of
arrogance
- overfed,
unconcerned for the poor and needy
resulting in a culture of excess
including sexual indulgence
in the pursuit of self gratification.....  Ezekiel 16:49-50

Hmm... sounds kinda familiar....?! :(

I find it interesting
that mankind wants
- Leisure and luxury
and it always eventually
leads to excess
and focus on self

Jesus warns his disciples
'it is IMPOSSIBLE
for the rich to enter the Kingdom
except by a miracle of God'. Matt 19:23-26

Hmm...

Lord,
I am drawn to beauty
and prosperity
and lavish abundance
as Your Kingdom is full of such...

and Yet....
My nature would love to
make that the focus
all about
more..
for
me...

Teach me
Train me
walk me through my day
point out
when I begin to shift from Your Kingdom ways
to
my own.

Yes.
Thank You
for doing that.
