Hello, Black Creek Church Family,
Day 67 today. Donna and I are in Manitoba and leaving for Saskatchewan on Tuesday.
Thus begins our drive home via a number of 'relative' detours.
While we were in St John's NFLD we dropped into a thrift store and got some books to read while we traveled.
One was a Very interesting read.
Ove is a rough around the edges man who is trying to deal with the world, grief, anger and a very rigid view of life. Those who live in his neighbourhood keep interrupting his need to 'check out' by pulling him into their world.
In the end he is loved and loves in spite of it all.
During this time of reflection and meeting / observing many people, Ove's narrative has helped me look and see differently.
Each person has a story. Each one does things for their reasons....
and each one needs to be needed and have others meet their needs.
be cared for... and care for others.
Community, not a word but a context for fullness of life.
Ove's life without purpose was unbearable. But being pulled into others' lives brought purpose, life and eventually love.
As I look at the Body of Jesus. Christian Community. The Family of God, it reminds me that I have lots to learn about these dynamics.
Romans 12:4 For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function,
5 so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.
6 Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them:....
9 Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good.
10 Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.
Looking forward to seeing you in less than a month.

On Sabbatical.
