Adult Study - The Exodus
- God had promised that He would deliver His people Israel from Egypt. Centuries had now passed without any communication or revelation from the God of their fathers.
- The situation seemed hopeless. One Pharaoh had died and another succeeded, but this change of government brought no relief, quite the contrary.
- Their bondage now seemed part of the settled policy of the Pharaohs. Not one ray of hope lit up their sufferings other than what may have derived from faith.
- Under such circumstances, the people, instead of despairing or plotting rebellion against Pharaoh turned in prayer, and as the Bible puts it, adding the definite article before God (Ex. 2:23) "cried unto the God"; the only and only true living God.
- The spirit of prayer, now for the first time appearing among them was indeed the starting of their deliverance. (Ex. 3:7)
